WORKIN WORKIN day and night. Thanks Michael for the theme song.

You know you've been working a lot when:

-You're drifting off to sleep, you've finally found a peaceful moment, and BAM! The heat come on and you scream, "Turn off the copier!!!!" .....?

-You look forward to popping blisters, so much better than zits, by the way.

-The guy who you get take-out from knows more about your life that your friends. When you had friends.

-Bagels become the foundation of your food chain, and you think it's "ok." Hello, bagels? No, bagels are death. Luckily, I'm too lazy to walk half a block to dunkin- doughnuts or I would definitely be in trouble, or cardiac arrest.

-It takes a few hours to shift out of work mode, and not answer the phone like you're a damn robot. "Good afternoon.Chelsea Talks Smack, how can I direct your call??"

"Chelsea, its MOM." "Hi Mom, how can I help you?"

-You start to forget what daylight looks like. Then, on your day off you're like a fucking vampire, scared, excessive blinking- so your eyes can adjust, and pasty. pasty. skin. Thank the heavenly people over at Jergens for that firming/tanning lotion.

-You call into radio shows to "chat". Since DJ's are the only voice from the "outside world, " they're like a beacon of hope, that there is life "out there".

-You forget what you look like.

-.....that happens shortly after you stop caring about looking "good."

- And drumroll :: Is it tacky to bring a cute little flask in my purse?::

As you can see, as noted above....."The Man" is TAKING OVER. The man is gettin' me dowwwn. However, no matter how strong a hold "it" may have on my sanity, I've managed to explore the city a bit- after hours.

*VYNL- very delish, and there's pumpkin cheesecake, cute bathrooms (is this as imperative to you guys as it is to me??) and even better: good lighting.

*Blockheads- big. ass. burritos. and big ass. margaritasssssss.

*Beauty Bar- cheap drinks, Aquanet, and happy hour....You can get a manicure too, hey yo! I'd like to shake the hand of the drunk Avon lady that came up with this magnificent idea.

*Cake Shop- buy a record, see a show and eat a cute little vegan pastry. It can get a big trippy however, some random chick gave me a homemade chapstick, called Clockwork Orange Creamscicle. Yeah.

* ...and Home on Cornelia St. which has ridiculously good wine, small cozy atmosphere...and definitely rivals Cafeteria's mac&cheese. :)

More foodie, whiney-hungry working girl blogs to come (I promise, I'll be all funny and shit soon). Anywhere you'd like me to hit up in Manhattan??? Let me know and I'll give you a bit of a review, plus, I'd love to keep exploring.....when I have time.......

Your poor mother. Still, I'm glad you are able to be so hilarious even when bogged down in work.

Haha, I definitely forget what daylight looks like sometimes, so sad.

Duuuude, Vynl is like 5 blocks from my apartment! Also, Blockheads = heaven, and Beauty Bar = le suck. At least I think so. Welcome to New York!

At my job, we're lucky to even get a break. A break for us is actually physically leaving our workplace to go back to this other location called our second home, work being the first.

Once in college I had been working 11 days straight at my job as a lame cashier at a sporting goods store and I answered the phone, "Thanks for calling Sporting Goods Store], can I take your order?" I've never worked in fast food. Explain that one to me.

that chapstick sounds yummy! i wanna try it!

hope you have more free time soon. work stress blows.

Erm, I really hope that it's not tacky to have a cute little flask in one's purse. Mostly because I plan on having a cute little flask in my purse at my wedding. And by "cute little" I mean "big ass."

EP said...

Tacky to bring a little flask in your purse? Oh, honey, it's way classier than shoving it into your boot or bra. ;) You're fine.

Sounds like you need a little break.

Oh my god, Blockheads.
Miraculous.
This post is great. It brings me back to ... 2004-05. To date myself. Oh well.

haha love the flask idea. i've actually got a bottle of half diet coke and half capt sitting in the backseat of my car from a night at my friend's place. i've thought about drinking the flat mixed drink just to tide myself over until my shift ends. :)

Please start actually answering the phone by referring to yourself at "Chelsea Talks Smack." That would be great.

Oh, and keep eating the bagels. You're in NEW YORK. I haven't had a single bagel since being out in Cali because they just, well, suck.

I answered my phone last Friday "Dicked tomorrow." I thought the guy on the other end was going to die laughing ... sometimes work completely takes over your mind. At least you find the time to blog Chelsea!

I so know what you mean about the phone thing. I can't help but leave messages in work-mode, and I have to remember to leave my cell phone number, NOT my work phone number. My friends call back and are like, "What happened to you?" It's all the working world.

Maxie said...

awww poor thing. At least the bagels are probably good, right?

I love Vynl! Esp. the mac & cheese...mmmm!

UM. This week is SO BUSY FOR ME TOO.

You know what night we need to go out?? Fucking SUNDAY night. And eat a big-ass dinner. Cuz it's Sunday. And that's what you do on Sunday.

Chelsea Talks Smack said...

Just me- I'm down, I'm going to research a place, right now. YESSSSSS, cannoot waaaaiiiit. BIG ASS DINNERS MAKE MY WORLD A BETTER PLACE, especially when eating with someone totally awesome. FOOD AND FRIENDS!! YAY!

"Hi mom how can I help you?"- that one made me giggle too. And as for being overwhelmed- the comment you left on my site makes me think you and I are in very similar situations right now. I want to get drunk to ease the pain but I don't have time for the hangover. (And THAT might be the saddest sentence I've ever typed). Fingers crossed this week is better (and easier!) for the both of us.

not in Manhattan, but if you are feeling adventurous, I'd love to know if The Chocolate Room's (86 Fifth Ave.) 3-layer blackout cake is as good as I've heard!!!

(It would get you out of work!!)

megg said...

sorry, I didn't say it was in Brooklyn, not Manhattan...

Take a day for yourself and rest...sounds good, right?
Ahh...I would love just 1 day!

I am just jelaous that you are in NYC!

I feel your pain in the clone wars. I am happy to say that today I am giving my resignation at work to do something mildly different with a company that allows me more freedom to be me.

Oh I can't wait to take in my letter this morning. My boss is going to shit herself.

As for seeing things in Manhattan, start a list. Write down every museum, restaurant, park, store, hotel, activity, bar/club, landmark you read about and want to see. Keep it on your fridge or someplace where you see it daily. When you have your days off, you get inspired to mark something off your list (and gives you a blog subject). It sounds kind of cheesy but I have done while in CA and wish I did it when I lived in Chicago.

OOH, Cake Shop sounds intriguing. I'll have to check it out next time I'm down in the city.

I would recommend having a drink at Vintage, it's cute and cozy. And of course you need to hit up the Sex and the City bus tour.

I've definitely done the "hi, mom can I help you?" to about 10 different people. Sad. Sad, indeed.

And when I came to your page and heard Jimmy Eat World "The Middle"... I was hooked. Not that I wasn't before. I used to love that song... you just brought back a few years *tear* (god, it's early for me right now.) Hope you have a better week this week!

Brandy- thats exactly true, I can never even drink when I get home, cause DAMNIT, I'd want to finish the whole bottle.

Megg- Oh, I'm a suck for cake. I'll def go there.

Heidi, thats a great idea, I'll do that RIGHT NOW while I have a minute, cause theres always things I say I want to do, but then I forget when I dont right them down and never do them

Dutchess- FUN!!! IM GONNA DO IT!

Poodlegoose- "in the middle" is m favorite song, EVER.

That chapstick is delicious, and it came in a cute homemade valentine! It was a little trippy in there though, and the guys seemed to be more afraid of us than into us. ?

Sounds like you are one busy lady! I wish I was there to polish off a bottle or two of wine, and a couple pieces of cake! ;)

Aahhh...I remember all those places in NYC too well. But I do beg to differ - Cafeteria has the best mac and cheese....well second to Chat and Chew.

I can't wait when I am in town next week. We're going to Smith in the West Village, Bar Blanc, Megu and of course my fave brunch place ever - Pastis. I don't plan on crossing 23rd street the whole time I am there.

ooo my favorite places in MANhattan have GOT to be The Living Room (acoustic venue where I used to work) good for a mellow night, also where Norah Jones got her start.

hmm: DEFINITELY Max Brenner (the one off of Union Square) for really good breakfast covered in chocolate.. you'll never want to eat anything without chocolate again

- for late night: the Crocodile Lounge on 14th off union square gives you a free Pizza everytime you order a beer (Uh-mazing)

- ANDD for really beautiful nights I'd say Luna Park Bar which is an outside bar in the center of union square

(didn't realize I loved union square so much) enjoy!

Okay, first off, pumpkin cheesecake?! OMG.Must.Have.Now.

Secondly, I'm coming to NYC for the very first time in my life EVER in May. Can YOU make some recommendations to ME about what to see and do?! So excited!

Check out Alice's Teacup - there is one ont he UES and one at 73rd and Columbus. I am partial to that once since it's around the corner from my apartment. Check it out. So cute.

And VNYL!!! I eat there at least once a week - the one on the UWS wins the bathroom competition. Get the Pad Thai with chicken - so freaking good. We will go there when we get together for drinks - the "kind of blue" is AMAZING. And I think Wednesday is Stoli night....

Bathrooms are IMPERATIVE to restaurants.

When I have to crank one out, I don't want to get some sort of disease from the toilet seat.

oh yeah! it has been a YEAR and I still have to consciously tell myself "okay, don't answer the phone 'such & such company, this is Christine', just say hello!" It was programmed way, way deep in my brain. Answering phones all day kills your soul.

And forgetting what I look like...that is a big one! I will go days and I can't remember what my hair is like today, or what makeup I put on..
