A NEW YEAR....

I was inspired by my last post- I inspired myself by my own post? Wow, that statement makes me sound a tad toolish. Anyhow, and with the new year upon us people carrying the weight of new resolutions and optimism for "change" I decided rather than creating any ONE resolution that I'd feel guilty about straying from at some point, I'd just DEFINE what it is that I WANT.

I think when you have a clear idea of WHY you want the things you want in your life; physically, mentally, career wise, morally, etc. etc. there's less resistance towards actually achieving it. When you only state what it is you WANT, it's really easy to fall into thinking about HOW you need to go about getting it which can just cause stress and fear when you realize the road may not be so easy, or you may not even have the answers to begin with. Saying, I want to (fill in the blank) because..... you affirm the things that make you feel GOOD, you vibrate at a higher energy of belief, because saying WHY it would make you feel good- makes you feel good.

It's easy to stand in the way of your own success and power when you stand in front of all the steps or missing steps you're going to have to climb to get there, but if you focus less on the "How to" and focus more on the why it'll benefit you, the steps will be much easier to take....or appear when you are unsure of where to step next.

SO- TODAY, I'm not RESOLVING to do anything.....ANY TIME of year is a time for change. Not the first of the month, or Monday, or after you get back from vacation, after you get a better job, after you have more money, after this- after that......IT'S NOW. Change happens whenever we decide it, we don't need a special day to do it....if anything, that makes the rules more tempting to break.

I created a board (since I'm a little Martha Stewart-y and crafty like that....or I'm still finding excuses to make kick ass collages) and at the top I wrote: WHAT DO I WANT.....

After each picture or statement I said, "I want this because...." and having to figure out why certain things seem like they would fulfill me really helped clarify certain aspects of myself that I didn't even realize needed to be validated, but they did....I got to the ROOT of what it is that makes me feel fulfilled, successful- whole.

2009, 2010....whatever year, whatever day, just decide; what and why and it's yours. Belief is such a powerful emotion eh?

Here's to you, raise you glasses and let's toast to HEALTH, living GREATLY AND PASSIONATELY, connecting, peace, safety, FULFILLMENT- NOW., abundance and laughter. CHEERS to deciding to live your very best lives starting NOW.

Dude! I was so thinking of doing something like that, making like a visualization board or something to put on my wall to remind me what I'm aiming for and why and all that.

Such a good outlook on things, you're one smart cookie, Chelsea. ;)

Awesome post. You said everything that I was feeling about resolutions...but I didn't have the words like you to say it. I am definitely with you.

Happy New Year!

I love your idea!! I think that would really work for me, I am more of a visual person. I am always writing down things I want to do, but maybe if all my wants are on one big board, it would be better for my attention span. Thanks for that! Happy New YEar:-)

good thoughts for 2009! I would love to see a pic of your board. I have been wanting to put up a dream board for a while, but haven't figured exactly what I want to do with it. Would love to have a place to put up magazine clippings, goals, inspirational things, etc.

sassy! Ah yes, check out the pic....its a blurry camera phone picture and yes you may notice that that's britney spears holding the snake in her "slave for you" performance. Don't ask. lol.

I always want things! But I'm learning how to write these things down and believe the Universe is looking out for me.

I totally agree about the fact that ANY day is a good day for change. That's why Nike has the best slogan ever, Just Do It!

anonymous- THANK U!!! I always try to guess if I know the anonymous people, now I'm gonna listen for people who say "awesomeness"

I love the board idea! I think it's great to visualize goals..and I think it's great that you aren't setting a timeline that you must do all of these things. Yes, anyone can make resolutions to do anything..it doesn't matter what time of the year it is! I'm off to get my scrapbook paper and cute stickers..board making time! :)

very cool idea! resolutions always frustrate me, because i always fail at them! but i am going to do what you are suggesting, and i will be so much more likely to follow through with my goals! thanks! and happy new year!

WE have been meaning to do this for a while now after watching The Secret. They suggest doing something similar. One guy reckoned he had made a visualization board many years ago and it had all sorts on it including the sort of house he wants and when he was moving many years later he pulled out the board and there was the photo cut out of a magazine of the exact house they were moving into. True? I don't know but sounds good huh?? Good work.

Chelsea Talks Smack said...

Jules- I know what you're talking about, I remember that and I'd actually seen that guy talk a long time ago. I've definitely seen that affect on a much smaller scale with vision boards that I've made.

I'M A BELIEVER ;)

miss jc- IT'S SUPER FUN. I love any excuse to get crafty.

Brilliant post. Your posts are all so inspiring and true. You're a blessing to everyone around you- including your blog fans

I agree with this, change happens whenever you are ready to embrace it and the work required to get there. I call them intentions, not resolutions, and set them all year long.

ryan- AW. Thank you....I'm so very lucky to have youuuuuu.

Note: Ryan is my bf ;)

Such a great outlook on things and you put thought and effort instead of just throwing out resolutions that won't go anywhere. Bravo to you!

PS I am making a collage on a bulletin board of things I want so I can see it everyday and be reminded of what I want. I love your idea of taking it that one step further and defining why you want it. I may have to do that :)

note: did anyone see the crazy "vision board lady" on the bachelor, well I odnt think she was really crazy....cause I do that, but man theyll spin these sorts of things to make you look like it eh? ha

Chelsea...I have a vision board got the idea from Oprah... I've had it for about a year now and it's a good tool to get to that next step. Everyone should give it a try.

Happy New Year stay cool. Peace JB
