ONE MORE REASON WHY I LOVE HIM, before I make you all gag.

The whole Valentines SCHTICK is never anyones "thing" when they're single. Those people who say, "yeah I don't really get into Valentines..." and then babble on about the shameless propaganda of Hallmark, "you don't need a day to declare your love, that should be everyday!" and SH*T are just bitter that they've never had an INCREDIBLE Valentines Day....and I know this, because I was one of those people.
In fact, last year instead of whining about it I wore an excessive amount of eyeliner and Beyonce sized hoop earrings, drank 7 hot-pink-you're-drinking-this-to-get-smashed cocktails, and pranced around New York City borrowing cigarettes from door guys and taking Myspace pictures, like "see...I'M NOT DEPRESSED, I HAPPY!" It was all just a big crock, or an Internet decoy so people didn't think I drowned myself in whiskey in my closet sized apartment with red velvet cupcakes half-eaten and scattered about the floor.

I was bitter and pissed at the colors pink and red, until I met My Love. The one who yes, I can't stop talking about-because I'm gloating just.that.much. The one who I wear PDA with like it's a new pair of Marc Jacobs shoes that I want everyone to know that I HAVE because they're so effing awesome. AND UNIQUE.

This year, I couldn't wait for Valentines Day. Because of the one who I got to spend it with, is the kind that makes me breakfast while I'm still asleep, so I can wake up to the smell of bacon. He's the kind that says so convincingly that I look better without makeup that, I almost believe him. He's the kind that brings my Mom a pound of coffee cause he noticed she was out, and will shot-gun a beer with my Dad and Uncles while listening to Metallica in the garage instead of pussying out under the pressure of such unabashed "man-ness."

He's the kind that notices the tone in my voice when something is wrong, even if I don't say so. The kind that remembers the name of my favorite restaurant, in some random state, on some random street, at some RANDOM time in my life and makes mental note. He's the kind that knows how to talk-down my "crazy" and makes me BREATHE a little bit better. He's the kind I was certain was a figment of my delusional imagination?

He's the kind that creates a plot to get me out of the house, sneaks in, decorates it in all the romantic cliche-y things that make single people gag and coupled people SWOON, and leads me to a TV screen, with THIS video of him and his MUSIC on it......

He's the kind, that to me- is perfect...........

video

That, I'm quite sure- is a ONE OF A KIND kind of thing.

Tell me lovely readers, how was your Valentines Day. ALL VOICES WELCOME: Bitter, single, coupled, married, drunk, indifferent....I've been all of those voices, except for married.

Yayyyyyyyy! That was so fucking cute. My Love did something similar (minus the cute personalized video) by sneaking me out of the house the whole day to cook me a delicious dinner, clean the entire house and had my favorite movie playing as soon as I walked in. It was perfect and I'm glad I've FINALLY had an awesome Valentine's Day that wasn't too over the top but just right :]

I like reading the non-bitter posts. We made dinner together that night, went salsa dancing, and the next morning surprised her with breakfast in bed.

I didn't celebrate it at all. I probably would have forgotten all about it, if my two best friends hadn't wished me happy vday. Anyway, I was home sick, so I mostly slept the whole day. Lovely way to spend a weekend. :(

Well. That made me well up a bit. Sooo lovely. And so much better than chocolates or flowers I am sure.

I went out with friends. It was fun. But not romantic fun, which would have been nice.

My boyfriend and I decided not to celebrate this year, which was totally alright with me. I honestly am one of those "I don't care girls." We ended up going to our favorite sushi resturant.. Both wearing sweatshirts amoung crowds of people in ties. I looked down, noticed a stain and looked at him and said, "Now I know why you love me." For us it was just dinner, which was fine. Takes all the pressure off!

My mom's birthday is on valentines day so I took her out and went to see confessions of a shopaholic. It's probably the most relaxing valentines day I've ever had. it was nice.

I spent my V-Day studying for midterms and writing papers. And then I got a pity phone call from my ex (who has a new girlfriend) because he knew I was bummed and he tried to make me feel better by saying "I still care about you on Valentine's Day!" but it made me feel like garbage. And then I went to drinks with a friend who told me all about her new budding romance. In short, it was awesome.

Very, very cute. What's perfect is finding the person that celebrates it or does it your own way. A way that is special for both of you, whether that's pizza and a movie or a grand gesture is all reliant on the couple and their personalities I think (or zodiac signs, maybe?).

I honestly don't think much of Valentine's Day...I would probably forget about it if I didn't work in retail. I actually think that it's just WAY to much pressure to do something fantastic when you should be finding ways to do spontaneous and great "I love you" stuff all the time...and I told this to my boyfriend who said that he wasn't into Valentine's Day either. And then, on V Day, he showed up at my house with a little balloon and confessed he actually is into Valentine's. I suppose I can be swung in the direction of liking it if he does lovely things for me to get excited about on the 14th.

Anyway...

How to make me feel like a very weak romantic...

Just because I don't have a girlfriend, doesn't mean I didn't WANT to do sappy stuff like that this year!

He sounds lovely though!

That is ridiculously cute. I celebrated my third v-day with the boyfriend. We went to an overpriced, overrated restaurant, but with him, anything is fun.

That is so sweet! I just love Valentine's Day... any excuse to spread the love to all our friends and family is good for me.

I went to Thai food, did sake bombs and then drank beer at an Irish bar with two of my closest friends. It was perfect.

Ha... this is a good idea! I wrote 3 Vday songs (and posted 'em), but somehow I don't think they compare to your man's song :)

Sizzle said...

That's so sweet. That's a good kind of love to have.

I'm not going to tarnish this beauty with sadness so I'll skip my v-day report.

Rebecca said...

Sigh... so cute. My Vday was great too :) I totally agree that the people who say it sucks are bitter :)

That boy is a keeper! :) That video was lovely, and the song gave me goosebumps (in a good way)

We spent Valentine's Day running errands, talking about our wedding planning, and then we had Japanese. It was low-key and lovely.

Chain him to your bed girl.

Aww, that is so freaking cute!

I didn't celebrate Valentine's this year because I worked a 12-hour day. I ended up passed out on the sofa when I got home. But my boy and I do plan on celebrating -- even if it's something simple as a romantic dinner together -- the next time I see him.

I had a girls night (2nd annual) slash going-away party (I'm en route to Australia, actually.) We began the tradition last year when one of my girlfriends and her man of 2 years broke up earlier in the week. We have all worked in the restaurtant industry at some point, so we're all used to working til X o'clock. Miraculously we all took off of work, got dolled up, drank champagne, and had a dance party. Best way I've ever spent Valentine's Day, to be honest.

So, you traveled all around the world to come home and fall in love.

I'd say you're pretty damn lucky.

I didn't get to spend it with Hubby until yesterday - he was away on business and I was away with family. I came home to a CLEAN house, flowers, and dinner. LOVE him!!!!!

Um, wow. Pretty amazing guy you found yourself. "He's the kind I was certain was a figment of my delusional imagination?" I totally agree. Just found myself in one of these types of relationships and I keep thinking "clearly I'm going to wake up from this dream soon." But nope, it's not gonna happen. He's just that amazing.

It was a double-date thing since my man lives with one of my best friends and her husband. My friend and I bought pizza and beers and added a few drops of red food coloring to the beers to make them Valentine Beers. We played card games and after a few drinks we went to the strip club and the boys watched as us girls got our First Ever Lap Dances.

We came home, kept drinking, then the man and I passed out after a cute little heart to heart followed by some superawesome sex.

Who says romance is dead?

Awww! Sweet post.

My Valentine's Day was nice - a fancy homemade dinner with my husband, with roses and poetry.

Careful, ma'am... You certainly don't have to be "bitter and single" to firmly believe that Valentine's Day (or Christmas, or Thanksgiving, or Easter, or any other holiday in this country) has turned into a disgusting show of money-spending.

Flowers, thoughtful shows of love, and gifts like your guy's are great and what everyone should be doing -- but be really careful about that wording. Sorry you were bitter about being single, but I'm sure that's not the case for everyone who's a little leery of the day.

He's cute and so are you!!!!Best luck forever and always!!!!

You're one of the luckier women, Chelsea! My ex keeps telling me I look better without make up, too. I almost believed him as well..until he dumped me on Valentine's night.

Oh well...Glad some of us had a fun time on Valentine's.

Oh my goodness, he's dreamy! So glad you found the one to make you happy.
From the married voice...Jon brought me flowers in the morning, we spent the day prepping our condo to put it on the market, then he made me a delicious homemade dinner, Penne a la Vodka, my favorite!

cavy said...

omg that was amazing. you are one lucky girl! :)

my valentine's day was spent in san francisco with my best (girl) friend. it was amazing.

Melain said...

First of all, when did you start censoring your sh*t? And secondly, this was a lovely tribute to a lovely boy that I'm sure didn't make anyone gag.

As for me, I spent Single Awareness day watching horror movies with girlfriends as I have done every year for the last 6 years, although I've been happily married for 9 years and had a boyfriend pretty much every year before that. Maybe the fact that I've never been drunk and bitter on Valentines is the reason that the day means absolutely nothing to me.

*sigh* What was a cute and awesome video :-D

We had to celebrate on the 13th (ooo, spooky...) due to a birthday party that took place on V-Day.

He took me out to Hamada of Japan - a Japanese restaurant where the chef cooks your food on the spot, does tricks, etc. etc. We had a bottle of wine and enjoyed the show & food.

We don't go all out for V-Day; as long as we have each other, we will enjoy any day. :)

Awwww. Cute post. I have a fantastic BF, but we don't get into the Valentine's day nonsense, we just made dinner, as usual for a Saturday night, and snuggled up to movies and SNL. We did wish each other happy valentines, which is more than we've done in previous years... ha ha.
